Our Nursing is based on the MHH mission statement and the nursing concept of Hannover Medical School.

Our nursing team consists of full-time and part-time registered nurses (some with additional qualifications such as surgical service specialists, nursing management specialists, practice instructors and mentors) and surgical assistants (OTAs).

Participation in internal and external training courses is an integral part of our Human Resources program. New colleagues are introduced to their new tasks in accordance with an induction guideline developed by our department, which guarantees our patients a high standard of safety and care.

We guarantee 24-hour care by working in a two-shift system. This consists of early and intermediate shifts, followed by on-call duty for two employees every day.

Nursing ensures efficient procedures for planned as well as emergency or unforeseen operations.

Our tasks are

• Instrumentation and jumper activities
• Loading, unloading and positioning patients
• Preparation and follow-up of the surgical unit
• Supply and disposal of instruments, disposable items and implants
• Professional handling of equipment
• Preparation of specimens for histology and microbiology
• Induction of new employees
• Accompanying trainees at the nursing school and OTA school
  

Our complete spectrum includes

• Cardiac surgery/ artificial heart implantation
• Thoracic surgery/ VATS (video-assisted thoracic surgery)
• Heart and lungtransplants
• Vascular surgery/ stent implantation

In our daily clinical routine, we work with IT support for surgery planning, surgery documentation, orders and rostering. This ensures complete recording of patient-related data (implants, materials, counting documentation).

Participation in MHH training courses is a matter of course for our nursing staff. We also facilitate external training courses. Specialist training courses and meetings are regularly planned and implemented. We allow our employees as much flexibility as possible within the framework of the specified duty roster.

HTTG OR Nursing practices interdisciplinary cooperation with the following professional groups:

• Medical staff from surgery and anesthesia
• Anesthesia nursing staff
• OR nursing staff from other departments
• Cardiotechnicians
• Sterile supply, material coordination and cleaning staff

• Our surgical department is located in building K5 on the fourth floor.
• You enter the MHH through the main entrance (building K6) and walk through the shopping street to elevator node_A.
• There, turn right until you reach elevator node D.
• Take the passenger elevator to floor 4 and exit to the right.

This will take you directly to the OR, call 0176/1532-3462 and you will be ushered into the OR.
