Information on the ward
Welcome to our website
Our Nursing is based on the MHH mission statement and the nursing concept of Hannover Medical School.
Our nursing team consists of full-time and part-time registered nurses (some with additional qualifications such as surgical and endoscopic nursing specialists, practice supervisors in the OR, mentors) and surgical assistants (OTAs).
Participation in internal and external training courses is an integral part of our Human Resources program. New colleagues are introduced to their new tasks in accordance with an induction guideline developed by our department, which guarantees our patients a high standard of safety and care.
We guarantee continuous care by working in regular service with a subsequent on-call service in order to restore the well-being and health of our patients in interdisciplinary cooperation.
Our nursing work focuses on the care and support of patients with the following conditions:
1. in colorectal surgery:
- anorectal malformations/anal atresia
- Chronic inflammatory bowel diseases
- Hirschsprung's disease
2. in pediatric surgery with fast-track procedures:
- Anderson-Hynes
- fundoplication
- Nephrectomy
3. in the surgery of congenital heart defects:
- Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and artificial heart implantation
- Heart and lung transplants in children and adolescents
- Implantation of tissue-engineered heart valves for congenital heart valve diseases
- Complex heart defects in infancy
- Late corrections and treatment of re-, residual and follow-up operations in adults
- with congenital heart defects
Holistic care is provided through nursing measures such as
- Instrumentation and jumper activities
- Provision and management of all necessary instruments, equipment and implants
- and medical devices for the operation
- Preparation and follow-up of the patient for surgery, surgery documentation and the associated
- associated counting control and the implementation of hygiene guidelines in the operating room
Our colleagues in the pediatric OR are also on call at night, at weekends and on public holidays for our young and old patients to ensure that "minor surgical emergencies" can also be treated.
- You enter the Children's Hospital through the main entrance (building K10) and walk straight ahead to the pediatric surgery outpatient clinic.
- From here, take the elevator to level 01 (or use the stairs).
- You are now directly in front of the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
- Walk approx. 10 meters further through the first glass door marked Aseptic OR area.
- In the corridor there is a sign on the ceiling labeled OP/recovery room.
- Go into the anteroom to the operating theater.
This will take you directly to our operating theater and the recovery room on the right-hand side.
As the operating theater is not accessible to visitors, please use the doorbell or knock on the door to the recovery room at
The recovery room is always staffed from 09:00 on weekdays and parents are welcome in this area after the operation.
