Information on the ward
Welcome to our website
Our Nursing is based on the MHH mission statement and the nursing concept of Hannover Medical School.
Our nursing team consists of full-time and part-time registered nurses with specialist training in surgery and endoscopy as well as surgical assistants (OTAs). We see ourselves as part of a multi-professional team and work closely with other professional groups and specialist departments.
Participation in internal and external training courses is an integral part of our Human Resources. New colleagues are introduced to their new tasks in accordance with an induction guideline developed by our department, which guarantees our patients a high standard of safety and care.
We care for our patients in regular services and on-call services. The excellent cooperation between all professional groups ensures the well-being and recovery of our patients.
Our area of responsibility includes the independent, professionally and expertly planned preparation of all surgical procedures. We also assist in the performance of operations and monitor patients before, during and after the procedure.
We are familiar with all medical equipment and instruments through continuous training. This enables us to guarantee your safety during the entire surgical procedure.
Our tasks are
- Preparation of the operating theater, the required equipment and materials
- Patient reception and handover
- Caring for the patient, taking into account their individual general condition
- Ensuring patient safety through standardized procedures (e.g. team time out, counting checks, positioning) before, during and after the entire operation
- Instrumentation
- Positioning of the patient
- Quality assurance in the operating department
- Active participation in the departmental expansion of quality and risk management
- Induction and instruction of new employees and students at our OTA school through an individual induction concept
We form a multidisciplinary nursing group with the trauma surgery and outpatient OR nursing teams and are familiarized with each of these departments through a rotation concept. This enables close cooperation within this nursing group.
Our operating theater consists of 3 operating rooms, one of which is specifically for the treatment of severe burns. This ultra-modern room has a special ventilation system and underfloor heating, which allows us to manually regulate both the temperature and humidity. This feature ensures optimum heat management for the patients, as they are no longer able to regulate their own body temperature due to the severe burns. The temperatures are around 39°C and the humidity is up to 40%, which is a special working situation.
The PÄHW was the first burn center in Germany to be certified by the EBA certified.
We also work with special surgical microscopes and micro instruments that enable surgeons to reconstruct the smallest structures (such as vessels or nerves). This requires a high level of concentration and dexterity (e.g. for complex hand and arm injuries and amputations).
The PÄHW has also been recognized by the Hand Trauma Committee of the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH) as a "Hand Trauma Center" in accordance with the society's guidelines.
This makes the Clinical Department one of the best hand centers in Europe.
