Information on the ward
Welcome to our website
Our Nursing is based on the MHH mission statement and the nursing concept of Hannover Medical School. It is planned, carried out and evaluated in a patient-oriented manner, taking into account the psychosocial situation. We are responsible for a certain number of patients within the scope of nursing care.
Accommodation on ward 42 is in single, double and multi-bed rooms, which are equipped with their own bathroom and are generally allocated according to medical criteria. We are happy to accommodate individual wishes.
Our nursing team consists of full-time and part-time registered nurses (some with additional qualifications such as practice supervisors, wound managers, Master of Science (MSc) in Nursing, specialist further training in oncological nursing and palliative care). Participation in internal and external training courses is an integral part of our Human Resources program. In addition, an internet portal is used for independent e-learning. New colleagues are introduced to their new tasks in accordance with an induction guideline developed by our ward, which ensures a high standard of safety and care for our patients.
In addition to the registered nurses, participants in the advanced oncology training program, healthcare and nursing trainees and interns work on the ward. They are assigned fixed reference persons as mentors and are supervised and deployed according to their qualifications. Practical training is particularly important to us. The nursing team is supported by ward assistants who are responsible for serving meals, preparing patients' rooms, material logistics and much more.
We treat people with:
- Diseases of the haematopoietic system
- solid tumors and coagulation disorders
Our task is to provide needs-oriented, activating basic and treatment care. This includes assisting or taking over personal hygiene, mobilization, eating and much more, as well as carrying out or supporting prophylaxis (preventive measures). The prophylaxis and treatment of therapy-related side effects are of particular importance within our field of activity.
Another focus of our work is
- the treatment of wounds or venous catheters
- the administration of intravenous chemotherapy
- administering medication and taking blood samples
- taking blood samples
Before discharge, our patients receive detailed nursing advice and training on possible problems and how to prevent them.
We work together in a multi-professional team with physicians from various disciplines, psychologists, social services, physiotherapists, wound and stoma therapy, dietary advice and the nutrition team. We also make use of the support provided by the voluntary hospital help service (EKH) and pastoral care.

You will receive the necessary documents and information there. Please bring your health insurance chip card and, if possible, all previous medical reports with you to admission.
Important for visitors
Many of our patients are immunosuppressed and therefore at risk of infection.
It is our job to minimize the risks for our patients. Therefore, in the interests of your relatives and friends, we ask you to adhere to a few visiting rules.
- We do not have fixed visiting times. Please discuss any special requests with the nursing staff.
- A maximum of 2 people per patient may visit at the same time. Please discuss this within your family and circle of friends.
- Due to the increased risk of infection, some patients are not allowed to eat certain foods. Please be sure to ask the nurses before bringing any food.
- Do not bring any flowers to the ward. Potted flowers and flower water contain bacteria and fungal spores that can endanger patients.
- Children under the age of 8 should not enter the ward. If you have an urgent request, please contact us beforehand.
- Pregnant women and people who have recently been vaccinated should report to the nurses before entering the patient rooms.
- Visitors with colds and possible infections should refrain from visiting.
- Please disinfect your hands thoroughly before entering a room.
- If you have any questions or uncertainties, please contact the nurses.
Daily routine
We care for our patients using the area nursing system. Each nurse is responsible for organizing their own work routine according to the needs of the patients. Please make arrangements with the nurse responsible for you. The ward physicians' rounds take place in the mornings. Once a week, the head physician makes a ward round.
Food and drink
The food is delivered in a tray system. You have the option of choosing your meal from various menus. You can determine your portion sizes and make additional requests. Let the ward assistants or nurses know your wishes. Hot and cold drinks are available on the ward and accessible at all times.
The ward has a small kitchen which can also be used by patients and relatives. Here you can prepare your own small meals and store a small amount of food and drinks that you have brought with you. Patients with infections are not permitted to enter the kitchen.
Patient rooms
Each bed is equipped with a telephone (chargeable) and a safe. Each room has a television and WLAN for your own computer. Both are free of charge. Cell phone use is permitted on our ward.
You will need the so-called Hi-Med card to use it. You can obtain the card by paying a deposit at a machine in the shopping street.
For medical and/or nursing reasons, you may have to change rooms during your stay. However, we try to avoid this as far as possible.
Accommodation for relatives
In principle, it is possible to accommodate relatives in the MHH. However, capacity is very limited. There are also various hotels in the surrounding area. Further information on accommodation for accompanying persons can be found in the patient portal.
In exceptional cases, an accompanying person may be admitted to the ward. This will be decided by the attending physician.
- You enter the MHH through the main entrance (building K6) and walk through the shopping street to elevator node_C.
- There you take the passenger elevator to floor 2.
This will take you directly to our front door.
