Information on the ward
Welcome to our website
Our Nursing is based on the MHH mission statement and the nursing concept of Hannover Medical School. It is planned, carried out and evaluated in a patient-oriented manner, taking into account the psychosocial situation. We are responsible for a certain number of patients within the scope of departmental nursing.
Our nursing team consists of full-time and part-time registered nurses (some with additional qualifications such as practice supervisors and pain nurses). Due to the special requirements of the surgical area, we are supported by a nurse assistant and a colleague from the patient transport department as well as a federal volunteer.
Participation in internal and external training courses is an integral part of our Human Resources. We also hold regular team meetings and internal ward training sessions. New employees are introduced to their tasks according to an induction concept developed by the ward, which guarantees our patients a high standard of safety and care.
Regular team meetings are held to ensure effective Communications and a good exchange of information.
We guarantee continuous care by working in a three-shift system in order to restore the well-being and health of our patients through interdisciplinary cooperation.
As part of the holistic care of our young patients, we work closely with the following professional groups
- physiotherapy and occupational therapy
- breastfeeding counseling
- nutritional counseling and dieticians,
- stoma therapy
Accommodation is provided in twin and shared rooms.
The nursing focus is on the pre- and post-operative care of the entire spectrum of pediatric surgery and premature and neonatal surgery.
In order to keep the inpatient stay as short as possible and to give you security in this stressful situation, it is an important objective for us to support you in the special Nursing of your child.
Our task is the pre- and post-operative Nursing and monitoring of patients after surgery in:
- general pediatric surgery
e.g. appendicitis, inguinal hernia, menigomyelocele / spina bifida
- Early and neonatal surgery
e.g. biliary atresia, oesophageal atresia, omphalocele
- Oncological surgery
e.g. neuro-, nephroblastoma, liver tumors
- Thoracic and lung surgery
e.g. diaphragmatic hernia, funnel chest
- Trauma surgery
e.g. fractures
- Ophthalmology
e.g. strabismus / cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment
- Ear, nose and throat surgery
e.g. cochlear implantation
This includes, among other things, aseptic dressing changes and the handling of various supply and drainage lines, e.g. thoracic / wound drains, splints, various catheters, VAC pumps, central venous access including parenteral nutrition.
Ward 66 was completely renovated in 2015. All patient rooms are equipped with a bathroom/WC and a television. The generous space available allows us to accommodate an accompanying person in the inpatient area if required. As long as your child is in the intensive care unit after a surgical procedure or for any other reason, there is the possibility of reserving a room in the nearby "Mercure" hotel if you are not at home in Hanover or the Hanover region. If there is a medical indication, these costs are covered by the health insurance companies.
The day of admission is filled with many examinations and medical consultations, so we ask you to stay on the ward. Unfortunately, there will also be waiting times, so please allow for these!
The informed consent discussion for examinations, anesthesia and surgical procedures always takes place in the afternoon.
A playroom and a quiet/retreat room for parents are available for our patients on the ward.
If your child is allowed to leave the ward for medical reasons, they can be looked after in the children's clinic's " play oasis". For school-age children, there is the possibility of lessons at the bedside or in the clinic school.
- You enter the MHH Children's Hospital (building K10) through the main entrance.
