Information on the ward
Welcome to our website
We treat and nurse newborns, infants, small children, schoolchildren and adolescents. Adults with congenital heart defects are also cared for on our ward following cardiac surgery
Our Nursing is based on the MHH mission statement and the nursing concept of Hannover Medical School. It is planned, carried out and evaluated in a patient-oriented manner, taking into account the psychosocial situation. We are responsible for a certain number of patients within the scope of departmental nursing.
Our nursing team consists of full-time and part-time registered nurses (some with additional qualifications such as specialist training in intensive care and anesthesia). Participation in internal and external training courses is an integral part of our Human Resources. There are also regular team meetings and internal ward training sessions. New employees are introduced to their tasks according to an induction concept developed by the ward, which guarantees our patients a high standard of safety and care.
We ensure continuous care by working in a three-shift system in order to restore the well-being and health of our patients through interdisciplinary cooperation.
Our ward was renovated in 2014 and designed with a special color and lighting concept. In order to continue caring for our patients after their intensive care period, we are planning to set up an intermediate care area in 2018.
Accommodation is provided in two-bed and four-bed rooms.
Our focus is on the intensive care and treatment of newborns, infants, small children, schoolchildren and adolescents with:
- Diseases of the heart
- Liver, kidney, lung and heart transplants - before and after transplantation
- major surgical interventions, e.g. tumor surgery
- oncological diseases, if intensive therapy is necessary
- severe infections, sepsis
- serious accidents, craniocerebral trauma
- Intoxications (poisoning)
- Metabolic disorders
Adults with congenital heart defects are also cared for on our ward following heart surgery.
In addition to the usual intensive medical monitoring and ventilation, special organ replacement procedures are used, e.g. dialysis, ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation).
In order to mobilize our patients as quickly as possible, we work closely with the early rehabilitation team.
Due to admissions, ward rounds, examinations and handovers, the daily routine often has to be flexible. Relatives are informed of visiting times when the patient is admitted to the ward. If parents are unable to visit their child, there is a parents' room outside the ward where they can make themselves a cup of coffee or tea.
It is not possible for parents to be admitted to the ward, but there is the option of accommodation in nearby accommodation.
If required, we can put parents in touch with a counselor or psychologist.
You can also find more information about Ward 67 on the website of the Clinical Department of Paediatric Cardiology and Intensive Care Medicine and in our information sheet forparents.
