Information on the ward
Welcome to our website
Our Nursing is based on the MHH mission statement and the nursing concept of Hannover Medical School. It is planned, carried out and evaluated in a patient-oriented manner, taking into account the psychosocial situation. We are responsible for a certain number of patients within the scope of nursing care.
All rooms are double rooms, and single and family rooms are also available on request. Fathers can also be admitted to the family room. We can also monitor and care for up to six newborns in our newborn observation area.
Our nursing team consists of full-time and part-time registered nurses, some of whom have additional qualifications as IBCLC breastfeeding and lactation consultants. Midwives, nurses and pediatric nurses work together in an integrative manner. Participation in internal and external training courses is an integral part of our Human Resources. New colleagues are introduced to their tasks in accordance with an induction guideline developed by our ward, which guarantees our patients a high standard of safety and care.
We guarantee continuous care by working in a three-shift system in order to restore the well-being and health of our patients through interdisciplinary cooperation.
The focus of our work is the optimal care of mothers and their newborn children. Both should be given the opportunity to receive the best possible care so that they can be discharged home satisfied and well prepared. For example, a number of necessary examinations can be carried out here on site, so that a visit to the pediatrician is not absolutely necessary. These include
- U1 check-up directly in the delivery room
- U2 check-up after 48 hours of life at the earliest
- Vitamin K prophylaxis at U1 and U2
- Hip sonography in case of conspicuous anamnesis
- Hearing screening
- Consultations in the pediatric clinic in the event of pathological abnormalities
- Newborn screening (metabolic test)
Concept of integrative postnatal care and family-friendly hospital
Ward 82 works according to the concept of integrative postnatal care. Mother and child are cared for by one nurse. The respective midwife, nurse or pediatric nurse is responsible for all aspects of a patient and, if applicable, her newborn child. Where possible, mother and child should not be separated from each other from birth in order not to disturb, interrupt or prevent the mother-child bond, but to intensify it through contact that is as uninterrupted as possible.
It includes the individual and competent care and Nursing of mother and child through:
- guidance
- counseling
- Area care
- assistance
- information
Regular further training takes place for all employees. Due to the different professional groups on ward 82, there is always the possibility of mutual familiarization and the answering of specific, job-related questions.
Uninterrupted contact between mother and child can be facilitated by the following measures:
- Advice and assistance in the care of newborns
- Advice on nutritional support for newborns
- bonding
- Phototherapy directly in the mother's room in the event of neonatal jaundice
- Child monitoring measures after a high-risk pregnancy or high-risk birth
- Competent breastfeeding support from midwives and pediatric nurses,
- Nurses and lactation consultants
- Rooming-in
- Breastfeeding directly after birth in the delivery room (particular attention is paid to exclusive breastfeeding)
You arrive at the planned inpatient admission
- Please go through the hall on the first floor of the Women's Clinic (building K11) and turn left to the inpatient admission.
- If the admission is closed and in case of problems, please report directly to the delivery room!
- This regulation only applies to pregnant women and women due to give birth.
In order to give mothers with their newborn children the necessary peace and quiet, our visiting hours deviate from the usual MHH visiting hours.
Visitor regulations for ward 82 during the corona protection measures can be found here.
Observation area for newborns - wall to wall with the patient rooms
An observation area for newborns was opened on the mother and child ward in 2012. Among other things, mature newborns and premature babies who require short-term medical care are cared for here, for example babies with blood sugar adjustment disorders, babies who require cardiovascular monitoring or babies who need to be given antibiotics. This means that the children can stay close to their parents on the mother and child ward despite their health problems.
If your child needs to be transferred, the pediatric clinic can be reached directly from the women's clinic via a corridor.
Pediatric care in the area is guaranteed by a pediatrician who is present every day. The U2 newborn check-up takes place from Monday to Saturday.
An orthopaedist is present twice a week.
Your partner can be admitted as an accompanying person. This is subject to bed occupancy. The surcharge for this service must be requested on admission. We ask for your understanding in advance that this is not always possible.
