Teaching Award Medicine
Whether in the lecture hall, in the laboratory or on the wards. In all areas of the MHH, dedicated lecturers make their contribution to ensuring a high quality of medical education. In order to make exceptional commitment to teaching publicly visible, the MHH Teaching Prize for Medicine has been awarded since the 2008/09 academic year. A new procedure was developed and approved by the Senate for the 2022/2023 academic year. The teaching awards are not financed by tuition fees or study quality funds. The teaching award therefore comprises two pillars:
The best lecturer of the academic year
This award category is intended to retain the previous determination procedure in an optimized form. The following principles apply to the award determination:
- There are two prizes per academic year (1st and 2nd place), which are awarded annually on the basis of the student vote.
- The prize should include all courses except lectures. (By excluding lectures, priority is to be given to lecturers of small group teaching as this accounts for over 70% of teaching time in most departments),
- Up to 3 candidates per module can be put forward for selection as the best lecturer. The preselection is made by the module leader.
- A candidate can only be nominated once within a two-year period.
- Votes are cast in an online vote at the end of the academic year using a plurality voting system with five votes per student. This means that it is possible to combine or cumulate votes. This is intended to enable better differentiation between the individual candidates.
The jury prize
The jury prize is to be awarded once a year. There should be a 1st place and a 2nd place. This prize is intended to strengthen innovation and teamwork in teaching. There will be an annually changing thematic call for applications, for which only self-applications are permitted. The following procedure is planned for the awarding of the jury prize:
The Study Commission Medicine ...
- ... decides on the topic of the competition, the amount of prize money and the selection criteria,
- ... decides on a list of criteria adapted to the topic of the competition with points for the selection procedure,
- ... determines the format of the application as well as the dates for the announcement and publication of the award winners.
2. the Study Commission appoints the members of the jury. The jury consists of two students and two lecturers; the jury member should have expertise in the topic of the competition.
