The conductor

Malte Gerlach

Malte Gerlach's musical education began in his early youth and resulted in numerous successes in both the solo and ensemble competitions at Jugend Musiziert. After graduating from high school in 2009, he began studying to become a teacher of music and history at the University of Osnabrück. In his main subject, trombone, he received lessons from Martin Räpple (2nd trombonist in the Osnabrück Symphony Orchestra) and attended the orchestra conducting seminars of University Music Director Dr. phil. Claudia Kayser-Kadereit. He then decided to specialize in orchestral conducting, took conducting lessons with the 2nd conductor at Osnabrück Theatre, An-Hoon Song, and took over the orchestral conducting tutorials at Osnabrück University. In addition to supervising and preparing students for exams, his duties also included artistic co-supervision of the university orchestra. After completing his studies in 2014, he completed his teacher training and then took up his first position at a grammar school in the Braunschweig area. He has been teaching at the Käthe-Kollwitz-Schule grammar school in Hanover since summer 2020. In addition to his teaching activities, he regularly supervises various orchestral projects both within and outside of school as a brass teacher and/or conductor.
