Why good birth preparation is important
As a university hospital, we like numbers and statistics. And of course we like to share them with you. Did you know, for example, that in Germany around 80 percent of expectant mothers and around 60 percent of expectant couples attend a birth preparation course?
For good reason! Firstly, it is wonderful to deal intensively with the new life that is growing inside and around us, either as a couple or as pregnant women alone. And secondly, hardly anyone would think of going on a challenging hike unprepared and without a packed rucksack.
In our antenatal classes for couples, for parents of twins from Hanover, for pregnant women alone or for those in a hurry, the midwives would like to pack such an information rucksack together with you and at the same time encourage you to shed unnecessary baggage. You can ask all your questions and exchange ideas with other parents-to-be from Hanover. Together with your partner, you will strengthen your confidence in yourself and get to know your body a little better. Of course, you can also take a look behind the mysterious delivery room door.
The birth preparation course should be completed 3-6 weeks before your due date. If you are pregnant with twins, we advise you to take a birth preparation course between the 25th and 30th week of pregnancy. You can of course register earlier!
Costs
Antenatal classes are covered by your health insurance as a midwife service! So you pay nothing! The co-payment for your partner is also covered by most statutory insurance companies, at least in part. Please ask your health insurance provider!
So that parents-to-be feel well prepared, our obstetrics team also offers an information evening including a guided tour every two weeks. You can find more information and dates here.

On the first evenings, the expectant mothers are among themselves. For some women, it may be easier to discuss and ask questions about very personal matters in a group of just pregnant women.
But the second parent is also important and needs information. For this reason, the partners join from the 4th evening to receive relevant information on pregnancy and birth so that they can better understand their wives and thus provide good support during the birth.

Little time but great anticipation?
Our compact birth preparation course is just right for anyone who wants to feel well prepared - even if the due date is approaching or everyday life doesn't allow for a long series of courses.
In three intensive sessions, we will give you everything you need to know for the birth and the first time with your baby - sensitively, practically and in a warm atmosphere.
On two evenings, the midwife leading the course will take time for you as an expectant mother and you can exchange ideas with other pregnant women in the group, ask questions and recharge your batteries.
On the Saturday with your partner, you will be asked to work as a team. You will be shown how you can prepare for the birth together and get through this special time well. The focus is on practical exercises, honest insights and plenty of space for your questions.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:
Lots of questions. Even more answers. In this 14-hour weekend PLUS! course, our caring and, above all, experienced midwives, breastfeeding consultants and senior and chief physicians will guide you through this exciting time in the best possible way.
Go strengthened into your future. We will accompany you part of the way into your adventure as a multiple birth family. We promise you: All topics that are of enormous importance especially for you "more-than-one-time-parents" have a top spot on our agenda!
We'll talk about the vaginal birth of twins, caesarean sections, induction of labor, preterm labor, the postpartum period, breastfeeding twins and triplets (we always plan a whole themed evening for this!), the first few months with at least two newborns and your new reality of life if you already have children and now have two or even three more miracles!
You have our word:
With us you will not only meet course leaders who know what they are talking about, but also what YOU are talking about. Ask your questions and prepare yourself intensively for the events that lie ahead.
- How does your body cope with the special challenges of your multiple pregnancy?
- How does a spontaneous twin birth actually work? Who will accompany you through your time in the delivery room? Which baby positions make what difference? And why can you look forward to your big adventure as a family?
- What happens in the time between the birth of twins one and two?
- How do you find the right Clinical Department for you?
- What birth positions are possible and what can help you to face every contraction with confidence and strength and to give birth to at least two children?
- What happens during a caesarean section and when might surgery be advisable?
- How do you breastfeed your twins or triplets?
- How do you carry two children at the same time in a sling and have one hand free from time to time?
- How do you calm two little people with different needs, which everyday saviors have enabled us experienced mothers of multiples to have a harmonious start to family life, how do you remain a couple and "me" with so many "children"?
- How do you grow together quickly as a family? And how can you make the rich blessing of siblings palatable to your "big ones"? Are you up to the challenge?
- What do you need for your first equipment and what is perhaps superfluous?
- ...and much more!
In our virtual course room, you will only meet expectant parents of multiples from Hanover and the region who are also expecting more than one baby. Network with each other. And enjoy the feeling of not being alone with your questions.
"PRE-BIRTH PREPARATION for parents of twins? HOW CAN WE IMAGINE THAT?"
You work and learn in small groups via video portal. All ten pairs of parents come from Hanover. You can ask anything at any time, we practise, laugh and have fun together.

That's why all the midwives who run your courses - whether online or in person - know exactly what you're talking about. All extrakind midwives are either twin moms / proud twin sisters themselves and/or give birth to twins or triplets almost every day in Germany's best Clinical Departments. You will feel this unique mixture of closeness and expertise! Find out more: www.extrakind.de
