About us
Who are we?
The Islamic Community of the MHH (IG-MHH) was founded in 2005 and is the Muslim university group of the MHH, consisting of students and staff from all professional groups. Our aim is to support Muslim students and provide a platform for Muslims and those interested in Islam. Since 2018, we have also been an AStA project groups to promote exchange within the Islamic collective of students and also across denominations.
The IG-MHH is an autonomous body at the MHH that works independently of other Islamic associations, groups and communities and has no political objectives. Our field of activity is essentially limited to the university and is closely linked to the MHH.
Our aims
We see ourselves as a point of contact for all medical, academic and social concerns relating to Muslims within the MHH. We endeavor to act as a mediator in the event of difficulties in understanding, discrimination and as a pastoral care service in the clinical area. We would also like to promote exchange within the Islamic collective and across denominations. We contribute to this through our annual events and lectures, among other things. The prayer room has been located in the MHH's Ladenstraße since October 2016 and is open to staff, students, patients and visitors every day. It is also home to the office of the Muslim Chaplaincy - a project to provide voluntary support to Muslim patients during their stay in hospital.
Board and members
The Board of Directors usually consists of seven people who are regularly elected by the General Assembly. You can find an overview of the current board here.
Anyone interested in the MHH can become a member. We currently have over 150 members. Membership is free and non-binding. You can find out more here: Membership.
Our work at a glance:
- We regularly organize leisure activities for our members to strengthen the sense of community. These include regular meetings on campus, which always take place at the beginning of a quintile. We also organize excursions such as city tours.
- Especially for Muslim first-year students, we aim to make it easier for them to get started with their studies and their new living environment. For example, there is always a first semester welcome at the beginning of each winter semester.
- We have also set ourselves the task of making an academic educational contribution for students, physicians and all interested parties. That is why we regularly organize lectures and events that address current medical topics and link them in an interreligious way.
- Furthermore, we strive to organize lectures and workshops on racism and discrimination in order to promote peaceful coexistence on our campus.
Every year during the fasting month of Ramadan, we organize a joint intercultural breaking of the fast for both Muslims and non-Muslims with the aim of promoting open dialogue on our campus. There is not only a varied iftar buffet, but also a colorful evening program.
