Hemophilia Center Hanover
Under the umbrella of Pediatric and Internal Hematology and Oncology, the Hannover Medical School is home to the Hemophilia Center, one of the largest interdisciplinary units in Germany (Comprehensive Care Center). We treat children, adolescents and adults with haemophilia and other bleeding disorders, such as von Willebrand syndrome, other factor deficiency diseases and thrombocytopathies (Glanzmann's disease, Bernard-Soulier syndrome and others) from a holistic perspective. Therapy is carried out on an interdisciplinary basis with orthopaedists, physiotherapists, hepatitis and HIV specialists (for older haemophilia patients), ENT specialists, dentists and gynaecologists. We carry out numerous scientific studies in our Clinical Department and take part in national and international studies.
Coagulation outpatient clinic
One focus of our coagulation outpatient clinic is the preoperative diagnosis of blood coagulation disorders such as: Factor deficiency (e.g. hemophilia A or B, factor II, V, VII, X, XI, XIII), von Willebrand syndrome, platelet dysfunction. Depending on the planned operation, we provide patients with interdisciplinary care together with surgical colleagues (ENT, dental clinic, pediatric surgery, urology, ophthalmology, etc.), draw up a treatment plan and monitor the post-operative course. Thanks to many years of collaboration, our surgical colleagues have experience in operating on children with coagulation disorders. Thanks to the on-site blood bank, coagulation preparations can be made available around the clock.
Various diseases (heart disease, oncological diseases, sepsis, liver and kidney diseases, trauma) can lead to the secondary development of coagulation disorders (e.g. von Willebrand syndrome, thrombotic dysfunction, disseminated intravascular coagulation, etc.). Diagnostics and therapy are carried out in interdisciplinary cooperation with cardiologists, oncologists, nephrologists and intensive care physicians.
We are the largest treatment facility in Lower Saxony for children and adolescents with thromboses, embolisms and strokes. In addition to the treatment of acute thromboses, prophylaxis is an important treatment goal. This is intended to prevent the occurrence of new thrombotic events. Together with the families, we plan the patient's further rehabilitation and integration into their social environment.
Our strength
With the pediatric emergency department and the children's clinic of the MHH behind us, as well as the oncology background service and the emergency cell phone operated together with our internal medicine colleagues, we can ensure round-the-clock care. The network of cooperations with various specialties at the MHH ensures good care even in difficult situations.
