MINT Meets Medicine
M³ - MINT Meets Medicine is an interdisciplinary training and networking program for Master's students and doctoral candidates from the STEM subjects and medicine, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). The aim is to impart well-founded skills in the field of eHealth and to promote exchange between disciplines.
Participants gain insights into current scientific issues, acquire methodological knowledge and apply this in practical projects, focusing on the topics of big data in biomedical research, artificial intelligence in healthcare and causal methods in biomedicine.
Structure of the program
The program spans a total of three years and follows a recurring structure:
- In the Fundamentals, the basics of the respective annual topic are taught in digital formats. Renowned experts from science and practice provide insights into their work and present key concepts.
- The M³ School offers the opportunity for intensive interdisciplinary exchange, in-depth workshops and joint project work in attendance events lasting several days.
- In the Deep Dive, participants work on an interdisciplinary challenge over several months and present their results to a specialist audience, including at the annual conference of the German Society for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS).
The program also uses a digital platform to promote continuous exchange between participants and with experts from the field of eHealth. The aim is to create interdisciplinary networks that will last beyond the duration of the program and stimulate future collaborations. Participation in M³ opens up the opportunity to develop both methodological and domain-specific skills in the field of eHealth, to try out interdisciplinary collaboration in practice and to build up a personal network.

Big data in biomedical research
Fundamentals (October 2025 - March 2026)
A series of interactive online lectures will teach the basics of medical data, big data methods and relevant areas of application. Topics include the integration of medical data, multi-omics approaches and the use of open health data in research. The events are organized by experts from science and practice and offer space for questions and discussion.
M³ School (face-to-face event April 07-10, 2026 at the Seminarhof Drawehn)
The attendance phase serves to deepen the acquired basic knowledge. The focus is on keynotes on current research topics, practice-oriented workshops and working in interdisciplinary teams on specific issues. The program is supplemented by poster sessions, insights into clinical research infrastructure and laboratory tours. The multi-day event takes place in a concentrated working environment and concludes with a visit to Hannover Medical School.
Deep Dive (monthly online meetings from June - September 2026)
Participants work in teams on a practical challenge based on publicly available data sets. Methods and tools from the previous modules are used to develop data-based solutions. The results will be presented at the GMDS annual conference (27.9 -01.10.2026).
Who is the program aimed at?
- Master's students and doctoral candidates from the STEM subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology)
- Students and doctoral candidates in medicine or other health sciences
What should you bring with you?
- Interest in medical issues
- Enjoy interdisciplinary collaboration
- Curiosity to learn and/or apply basic data analysis and programming concepts
No programming skills are required. However, people with programming experience are also very welcome. The decisive factor is your interest in data-driven research in the health sector and your motivation to deal with digital methods.
What is expected?
- Participation in all three modules of the program year (Fundamentals, M³ School, Deep Dive) in particular:
- Face-to-face event April 07-10, 2026 in Drawehn
- Face-to-face event September 27 - October 01, 2026 in Freiburg
- Regular participation in the accompanying online events
Participation is free of charge and travel and accommodation costs are fully covered for all face-to-face events.
Persons wishing to participate in the MINT Meets Medicine program should submit the following documents:
Letter of motivation (max. 2 pages, Arial, font size 11)
- Describe your interest in M³.
- Explain your motivation to participate.
- Briefly describe your previous experience or interests in the field of eHealth, data analysis or interdisciplinary collaboration.
Curriculum vitae in tabular form
- The current career stage (Master's degree, doctorate, etc.) must be clearly recognizable.
The application phase runs until November 17, 2025 for the program year 2025/26. To apply, click on the following link:
