Personal stories provide insights into lives saved: the travelling exhibition ‘My Story’ at Hannover Medical School (MHH) gives young transplant recipients a face. On large banners, 20 young organ transplant recipients talk about their lives as recipients of donor organs such as hearts, livers, lungs or kidneys. Photographer Micha Neugebauer from Hannover portrayed them for the exhibition. ‘KiO Youth’, the junior team of the non-profit association Kinderhilfe Organtransplantation – Sportler für Organspende e. V. (KiO), organised the photo project, which was awarded the organ donation prize by the ‘Über Leben’ foundation.
The Vernissage offers an opportunity to talk to some of the young adults portrayed, some of whom received transplants at MHH. It will take place on

•    Wednesday, 10 September 2025, at 5 p.m.,
•    in the MHH Ladenpassage,
•    Building K6, Carl-Neuberg-Straße 1, 30625 Hannover.

MHH President Prof. Dr. Denise Hilfiker-Kleiner will open the exhibition. The exhibition can be visited daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. until Friday, 10 October 2025. Admission is free and open to all interested parties.
The MHH-Transplant Centre is the only one in Germany that performs transplants of all organs in adults, children and adolescents. Lung transplants in children and even infants are only performed at the MHH. At the MHH alone, almost 1,000 people are waiting for an organ; in Germany, the figure is more than 8,000.
The KiO association provides financial and psychosocial support to families with children suffering from organ disease. Its supporting members include over 100 Olympic, world and European champions.
