From the North Sea coast across Lower Saxony to Berlin and back: the transplant officers from Hannover Medical School (MHH) will be touring northern Germany from 19 to 24 May 2025 to provide information about organ donation. In Hanover, the information campers will be at three locations on Saturday, 24 May 2025: at the New Town Hall, in front of the Sprengel Museum and at MHH.
Every decision counts - yes or no
The ‘Camper Week for Organ Donation 2025’ brings the topic directly to the people - at weekly markets, in schools and hospitals. ‘We want to educate people, answer questions and talk openly about organ donation,’ says Dr Frank Logemann, one of the eight MHH transplant officers. Every recorded decision - ideally in the organ donor register - relieves the burden on relatives in an emergency.
Joint campaign by northern German hospitals
MHH is taking part in the campaign organised by the Network of Transplantation Officers North Region e.V. with a campervan, which is providing three vehicles. Transplantation officers from many North German hospitals are supporting the initiative.
Organ donation remains a difficult topic
Despite the new organ donor register and the debate about the opt-out solution, Germans do not document their attitude towards organ donation often enough. A survey by the Federal Centre for Health Education shows: A lack of knowledge and trust are the main obstacles, although over 80 per cent have a fundamentally positive attitude. This is why the transplantation officers want to inform and educate the public.
The ‘Camper Week for Organ Donation’ is one of the campaigns that will put the topic in the spotlight this year and draw attention to the nationwide ‘Organ Donation Day’ on 7 June 2025.
