Hannover Medical School mourns the loss of Professor Dr Tobias Welte.
"The death of Professor Welte fills us with great dismay and sadness. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his relatives," says Professor Dr Michael Manns, President of Hannover Medical School (MHH). "In Tobias Welte, the MHH has lost an extremely dedicated and esteemed colleague as well as an excellent physician who combined first-class clinical care with outstanding research and teaching."
As Clinic Director, Prof Welte showed exemplary commitment to his patients and staff. "He enjoyed the utmost respect as a person and doctor at the MHH and leaves behind a life's work that is second to none," added Prof Manns.

Tobias Welte had been Professor of Pneumology and Clinic Director at the MHH for 20 years, where he had also previously studied. His expertise was in demand worldwide, and not just since the coronavirus pandemic, and many international scientists join the MHH in mourning. From March 2020 to February 2021, the Clinic Director was also responsible for patient care at MHH as Acting Vice President. The university is deeply indebted to Professor Welte and will always honour his memory.
