The MHH has taken a major step forward in its plans for a new building for its daycare centre. A former scientist at the Medical School has donated €500,000 for equipment and outdoor facilities. Together with an inheritance of several hundred thousand euros and the proceeds from various fundraising campaigns, this means that the million euro mark has been reached. Dr Eckhard Schenke, Chairman of the MHH plus Foundation, is delighted with the generous donation: ‘This puts our fundraising campaign on the home stretch. We are absolutely thrilled!’

MHH plus Foundation collects donations for equipment and outdoor facilities

The MHH company daycare centre, which looks after around 190 children of MHH employees, urgently needs a new building. As the state government is not providing any funds for the new building, the construction costs of around 10 million euros are to be financed by an investor solution: the investor will build the daycare centre and then lease it to the MHH. In order to keep the subsequent lease payments to the investor as low as possible, the equipment and outdoor facilities are to be financed by donations rather than by the investor. The costs for this are currently estimated at 1.5 million euros.

Great commitment among MHH employees

The fundraising campaign has generated a great deal of enthusiasm within the MHH. Employees are donating themselves or calling on others to donate. Posters and donation boxes have been put up in all departments and central locations in the Medical School. The donation from the former MHH scientist is, of course, exceptional. He does not wish to be named, but he sees the donation as a thank you to his university. ‘The MHH has always supported me in my development and given me exactly the freedom I needed to conduct successful research. I am very grateful for that,’ said the donor. ‘A university couldn't ask for better feedback,’ said Vice President Saurin, who is responsible for the new daycare centre project. ‘This means a great deal to us as the Executive Board. And the Campuskinder daycare centre really deserve the support!’
