Dr. in Public Health
Public health is the science and practice of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organized efforts of society (Acheson 1988, WHO 2011). The focus is not on individuals, as in medicine, but on the health of the population as a whole or of population groups and on the healthcare system. Public health research is interdisciplinary and takes into account a large number of individual disciplines (e.g. sociology, psychology, medicine, epidemiology and economics). Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic in particular has highlighted the relevance of public health research and practice for population health and the healthcare system.
The doctoral program is aimed at Master's graduates of public health or public health-related study programmes (e.g. medicine, sociology, epidemiology, economics).
