Brave Space
Open exchange of experiences & skill sharing on dealing with experiences of discrimination
Time and time again, we are confronted with supposed "compliments", "jokes" or "just nice interest", which often conceal discriminatory thought patterns, stereotypes and violence. Many of us often feel speechless, helpless and angry in these situations. We want to meet, exchange ideas and together accept all possible emotions that arise and channel them into action.
In a protected atmosphere, we would like to play through situations with you in different roles in which you have felt uncomfortable or harassed in everyday life on the ward, in the lecture hall or laboratory, etc.
At BraveSpace, we want to create a regular space for a shared exchange of experiences in which we can give each other self-confidence for future situations and develop and practise possible strategies for dealing with discrimination.
What form of discrimination is it about?
SayIt started as a platform against sexism. As a predominantly cis-female group, we position ourselves against all forms of discrimination and its intersections. Together with you, we want to create a space in which we can discuss EVERY FORM of everyday discrimination that we have experienced or observed ourselves. The prerequisite for participation is not being affected by a particular form of discrimination. We want to learn from each other and treat each other with empathy.
Perhaps in the future we can also form so-called "safer spaces" together, in which only those affected by racism or sexism, for example, can exchange ideas. For now, however, we are looking forward to the Brave Space, which is explicitly open to everyone. Come along and help shape it.
When & where?

Workshop "Diversity, equality and inclusion"
The workshop "Diversity, Equality and Inclusion" took place for the third time on January 9, 2020 in the MHH Skills Lab. In a mixed group of students and lecturers, we used case studies, a short film and a role play to exchange ideas and listen to each other. We developed the workshop in the last academic year as part of a collaborative project with a group of students from Amsterdam, gender professor Petra Verdonk, the Office of Academic Affairs and the Institute of General Practice.
