Fracture Liaison Service

Prevent secondary fractures at all costs!

Fracture Liaison Service (FLS)

Osteoporosis (bone loss) is one of the most common diseases of humankind. Bone fractures that occur after the age of 50 can be an early sign of reduced bone strength. A fracture can be the first sign of osteoporosis. After a fracture, the risk of further fractures increases exponentially.
The aim of trauma surgery treatment at the MHH is not only to adequately treat your fracture but also to initiate osteoporosis diagnostics.
In January 2024, we have therefore established a Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) at our Department in cooperation with partners in private practice. The aim is to provide patients who have suffered a fracture with osteoporosis diagnostics and, if necessary, treatment in order to detect possible osteoporosis at an early stage and prevent further fractures in the future.

If you opt for our FLS, we will coordinate this osteoporosis diagnosis for you. It includes a blood test and a bone density measurement. These examinations will be carried out either during your inpatient stay at the MHH or on an outpatient basis at a qualified osteological institute in the Hannover region or in cooperation with the Bad Eilsen Rehabilitation Clinic and the DRV.
Based on the examination results, a decision can be made as to whether you have osteoporosis which requires special drug therapy.

Our FLS coordinator will arrange the appointment for you and inform you promptly!

If you have any further questions, our FLS team will be happy to help you at any time.
