The 3D video system

In conventional laparoscopy (keyhole technique), the surgeon's view is limited to 2 dimensions. The "da Vinci", however, combines 2 optics in one camera and thus provides a three-dimensional image. This enables orientation in all dimensions - as in a 3D movie, for example. Just like the instruments, the camera can be moved and controlled by the surgeon from the control console.

For particularly fine work, the camera is able to magnify the view up to 12 times. The operation can also be supported by importing ultrasound images or switching to different exposures, e.g. using fluorescent dye technology.
