Further information
Ward 16 has 28 beds with 1-3 bed rooms. Ward 28 (private ward) has 4 single bed rooms and one twin bed room.
All rooms are equipped with television and telephone. The telephone can be used for a fee. Please refer to the information brochure which you will receive on admission for the charges and instructions for use. The use of a cell phone is generally permitted. Each room has its own bathroom with shower/WC. The patient cupboards contain a safe in which your valuables can be stored.
All employees are qualified, state-approved nursing staff. The ward managers are specialists for management tasks in Nursing. Our trainees are accompanied by a practical instructor. We also have two specialist nurses for oncology and two continence advisors on site for you.
Regular training and further education ensures that we are always up to date with the latest medical and nursing developments.
Our team is organized according to the room care model. This means that one registered nurse looks after a group of eight to ten patients during their shift. The greatest possible continuity is ensured when assigning patients.
We work for you in three shifts. Early shift from 6 am, late shift from 12 pm and night shift from 7:45 pm.
Visiting hours at the MHH start at 10.00 am and end at 9.00 pm. An afternoon visit by our physicians usually takes place between 4.00 and 5.00 pm. During this time, the attending physicians are usually on the ward and are happy to answer your questions.
Care plans are drawn up in accordance with the MHH care guidelines, excerpts of which can be viewed at: www.mh-hannover.de/Pflegeleitlinien/

What applies to the special requirements of patients with coagulation and hemostasis disorders ultimately also applies to patients who belong to the religious community of "Jehovah's Witnesses". The Clinical Department of Urology and Urological Oncology at Hannover Medical School has extensive experience in the treatment of the aforementioned patients.
Many years of expertise in the treatment of patients with bladder emptying disorders - due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPO / "BPH") - enable us to offer safe surgical treatment to patients with a particular focus on avoiding transfusion (e.g. members of the "Jehovah's Witnesses" religious community). We are talking about transurethral anatomical enucleation (thulium:YAG laser [ThULEP], holmium laser enucleation [HoLEP] and bipolar [current] enucleation [bipolEP]) of the prostate, which was developed at the MHH by PD Dr. Thomas RW Herrmann.
The same applies to the treatment of bladder tumors by conventional snare ablation (TURB / TUR-B / transurethral resection of bladder tumors) as well as en-bloc resection of bladder tumors with laser or current (ERBT), in which the Clinical Department of Urology and Urological Oncology holds a special pacemaker position.
After examining the patient's individual risk profile and confirming the indication, we can also perform open and laparoscopic tumor surgery thanks to our extensive expertise.
The Clinical Department of Urology and Urological Oncology at Hannover Medical School has extensive experience in the treatment of patients with coagulation disorders and patients with artificial (drug-induced) coagulation and platelet (blood platelet) dysfunction. Surgical treatment of patients undergoing long-term therapy with acetylsalicylic acid (ASS 100® and similar) is generally possible in our hands. When treating patients on coumarin derivatives (Markumar® etc.), we recommend switching to heparin administration.
For the new generation of "heparin in tablet form" (Xarelto®), we recommend the corresponding changeover before surgery. In the case of the new generation of platelet aggregation inhibitors (P2Y12 antagonists, Iscover®), which are frequently used after implantation of coronary stents, it depends on the individual examination and the planned procedure.
Ureterorenoscopy with stone removal is unproblematic under ASA 100®, in individual cases also under Iscover® /Clopidrogel; transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TUR-B/TURB, en bloc resection (ERBT)) can also be performed under ASA 100, and after individual examination also under Iscover® /Clopidrogel.
Transurethral anatomical enucleation of the prostate using the Thulium:YAG laser (ThULEP) has proven to be a suitable treatment for bladder emptying disorders due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPO / "BPH").
This technique, developed by PD Dr. Thomas RW Herrmann and successfully applied at the MHH in more than 600 patients since 2009, can also be used to treat patients on the medication described above.
ThuLEP offers the possibility of sealing the incision area with the laser, so that the probability of bleeding complications is very low. The same applies to bipolar enucleation of the prostate with the bipolar (current) vapoenucleation snare (bipoLEP) as well as holmium laser enucleation of the prostate and ejaculation-preserving enucleation and resection. The MHH has been the first Institute to offer all procedures (HoLEP, ThuLEP, bipoLEP) equally since 2012.
The same principles apply to oncological surgery (see section on this page) as to endoscopic surgery. The Clinical Department of Urology and Urological Oncology at Hannover Medical School has more than ten years of experience in laparoscopic pelvic surgery (prostate cancer, bladder cancer) and upper abdominal surgery (kidney cancer). This experience also helps us to treat patients in the above constellation both laparoscopically (nephrectomy / kidney removal, partial kidney removal / partial nephrectomy) and in open surgery after individual case assessment. The MHH is one of the largest centers for kidney tumor surgery in Germany.
