Joie de vivre

Julia, 10 years old, liver transplant for 9 years

Julia's family wrote the poem Lebensfreude - Julias Geschichte.

It is spoken by Julia and her father as donors.

Listen to it now and get a dose of courage:

JULIA

My name is Julia, I am 10 years old,

I have long blonde hair,

glasses and a laugh,

that everyone has to join in with.

I like school and swimming,

playing the piano and climbing trees,

playing with my sisters big and small

play with my sisters, like being with friends.

I read books, ride my bike

never not eat spinach,

I like being outside and I think

I'm a completely normal child.

On my stomach, however, I have

I have a pretty big scar.

It's special, it's from

from my liver transplant.

I was still small, just born,

so I only know what I've been told

and shown in pictures.

My dad can describe it better.

PAPA

In the beginning, everything was like this,

as you would imagine: A happy family

and in the newly built house

happiness was spreading.

But unfortunately, unfortunately, unfortunately

things didn't go on so happily.

Because your growth was so small,

you went to investigate the cause.

Questions, doubts - "What's wrong?"

Why weren't you doing so well?

Looking for midwives and physicians,

fearing, hoping, waiting, cursing,

What might help? Will it get worse?

Will it pass? Are there any glimmers of hope?

Until you knew what you had,

there was a whole bar

Examinations and tests,

then the diagnosis was made.

It was like this: you had

biliary atresia.

Nobody knows why,

the disease comes from. Remodels the liver

until it is completely destroyed.

We had never heard of it.

And so we went to the hospital for the first time

to the hospital with you.

It was New Year's Eve and wet and cold.

You were 10 weeks old then.

After surgery with a sharp knife

you got visibly better,

were able to return home quickly recovered:

your worries had a break for a while.

You went full steam ahead!

But only for a short time

was the new happiness in life -

the problems came back.

Yellow skin, no appetite,

always a fever and

finally became apparent:

You need another organ.

You were not even 1 year old

and it was clear to all of us:

This procedure is

not without great risk.

We also had to take care of you at home

for your sister - every morning

to nursery, friends, food

we didn't want to forget.

MHH and anxiety again,

thinking about the long

waiting lists and the question:

How stable is the situation?

It is generally known:

Organs are missing all over the country.

Many who hope for help...

The question remained unanswered for a long time.

It's bad when without action

you can do nothing but wait.

The way out, it turned out in the end,

was a living liver donation.

Both your parents would

overcome all the hurdles,

to give you in the end

the opportunity to live on.

Relief as signed:

Dad's liver is suitable!

And a small glimmer of hope

became a great glimmer of hope!

This living liver donation

finally brought the turning point.

Even though many complications

followed the transplant,

it went well in the end,

despite the worries and the anxious

question of what life would be like

you are transplanted for now.

This small and legal wisdom

wisdom shows your story.

You can achieve a lot in this world

if you just stick together.

Good physicians helped,

nurses and courageous friends

Friends, the family, of course,

They were always there for us.

And if it was sometimes cramped in the hospital room

was sometimes cramped - actually always:

Knowing I'm not alone,

heals many a pain in the soul.

Nine years have already passed

since your transplant.

Your liver from dad

is working wonderfully.

You take medicine every day

often have to go for check-ups,

Liver value in any case,

blood tests, ultrasounds.

Sometimes you also lose heart,

when the values are not good,

we want to trust the future,

look to the future with confidence.
