MHH backpack for the service anniversary
June 16, 2025
Long-serving employees at Hannover Medical School are regularly honored for their loyalty. In addition to the anniversary certificates, the honored employees receive a gift at a small ceremony with which they can also show their loyalty to MHH on the way to work: an anthracite-colored roll-top backpack with the MHH logo in ocher or dove blue. These stylish companions from the MHH university store of the MHH-Alumni e.V. are in this case a sign of appreciation for 25 or even 40 years of shared history. Anyone who would now also like a practical, variable-volume rucksack for work and leisure doesn't have to wait until the next service anniversary, because: The MHH roll-top backpack can be purchased in the MHH university store!
Honorary citizenship for Prof. Dr. Dr. Siegfried Piepenbrock
May 28, 2025
Professor Siegfried Piepenbrock has been committed to networking students, alumni, teaching staff, researchers and external sponsors in a variety of ways for decades. He has now been awarded honorary citizenship of the MHH for this extraordinary commitment and service to the university as part of the 60th anniversary celebrations. Prof. Dr. Piepenbrock has always had a particular interest in teaching and the concerns of students. During his time as Clinic Director, he was already a candidate for the board of the MHH Alumni Association and, during his 19-year term as the first chairman, he had such a lasting impact on the alumni work of Human medicine at the MHH that it is now one of the best examples in Germany. From the very beginning, his motto was "The relationship with our alumni begins during their studies" and so, under his aegis, free membership of MHH Alumni e.V. for all first-year students and the so-called practical courses were launched. Since 2009, the graduation ceremonies organized by the association have marked the end of the degree course. Prof. Dr. Piepenbrock has always been keen to invite alumni back to their alma mater, even after this farewell. For this reason, the silver and, since 2020, the golden exam anniversaries have been held at the MHH every year since 2013. On the occasion of the MHH anniversary in 2015, a large Homecoming of Human Medicine was celebrated for the first time with over 800 graduates from all years.Prof. Dr. Piepenbrock was never rigid in his commitment, for him the idea of a lively university network with all its benefits always had priority - even or especially across association boundaries. For example, he advocated closer cooperation between the MHH Alumni e.V., the Gesellschaft der Freunde der MHH e.V. and the Förderstiftung MHH plus. We are delighted that this great personality will remain with the alumni association as deputy chairman.
MHH-Alumni e.V. has a new chairman of the board
May 15, 2025
The members of MHH-Alumni e.V. elected a new board at the general meeting in April. The new first Chairman, Prof. Dr. Ingo Just, has shown great commitment to both academic teaching and the concerns and needs of students in his previous role as Dean of Studies in Human Medicine at the MHH. With his many years of experience, he is ideally placed to further strengthen the connection between alumni and the university and to provide new impetus for the association's work.

On 13.11.2024, Dr. Tanja Zimmermann (Clinical Department of Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy) reported on the physical and psychosocial stress associated with cancer as part of the lecture series. However, it is often not only the patients themselves who are affected, but also their relatives who suffer from the psychosocial consequences. She therefore highlighted the importance of psycho-oncological treatments for cancer patients and their relatives.

Alumni association organizes ECG seminar
November 22, 2024
The MHH-Alumni e.V. is already committed to future graduates during their studies. It therefore supports MHH students with an extensive range of practical courses. These courses offer in-depth study content and enable practical practice in the areas of sonography, suturing and knotting techniques, Emergency Medicine and ECG findings. The sixth and final ECG seminar of the year took place on Wednesday evening. The course is held regularly in cooperation with the company "HORBACH Finanzplanung für Akademiker", which provides the seminar room and hires the speakers. The seminar provides advanced knowledge of the most important ECG findings by discussing various cardiac arrhythmias and the diagnosis of a heart attack in a detailed theoretical section. This is followed by practical exercises for the students, who evaluate real ECGs in small groups. Students of all semesters can thus gain important practical experience and expand their knowledge of ECGs.
MHH in conversation | Video on post-COVID online
October 22, 2024
On 18 September 2024, Dr. Christoph Korallus (Clinical Department of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine) reported on the current treatment of post-COVID syndrome as part of the lecture series. Unlike with other new diseases, it is not possible to develop a therapy based on the causes because the exact correlations are still largely unexplained. He therefore shed light on the various symptoms and how they are embedded in possible disease mechanisms and outlined approaches for positively influencing this often highly restrictive disease.

The exam anniversary is not only enjoyed by alumni
October 17, 2024
The graduation anniversary of Human medicine at the MHH always means a reunion with old friends and acquaintances from your student days. But it also means getting in touch with current students of Human medicine, who show what's new to discover at the MHH and which places remain unchanged during the guided tours. This often leads to an exchange about the changes in study conditions, which is also interesting for today's students. This is why the job of "executive" is quite popular among students.
Freya Rezazadeh Hamedani, who is currently in her third year at the MHH, and Louisa Dallmann, who has just completed her practical year and is about to graduate, were among the six young women and men who led three groups around the MHH campus at the graduation anniversary. "We didn't know each other beforehand, but we deliberately got together as a duo because we were able to contribute different perspectives due to our different stages of study," says Rezazadeh Hamedani. Right at the start, they broke the ice by suggesting that the jubilarians line up by subject area and talk a little about their respective careers. "It was really exciting to hear how different the paths were. As I'm still unsure how and where I want to go after I graduate, this diversity was very inspiring," says Dallmann. On the way to the lecture halls, library and dissecting room, there were further conversations with the alumni. Louisa Dallmann particularly remembered a pediatrician from Wolfenbüttel from the day: "She told us in an authentic way how much she loves her profession even after many years and how much she enjoys practicing it. It was great to hear that she continues to work with enthusiasm despite the challenges in her day-to-day work. It was very motivating to hear that." Her fellow student Freya Rezazadeh Hamedani found the visit to the SkillsLab, which was new to all the jubilarians, the most formative. The innovative teaching methods and modern equipment were shown to them with great curiosity and appreciation, and the exchange about them built a visual bridge between the education of the past and the present.
The two students were so enthusiastic about the afternoon that they stayed for the ceremony to hear anecdotes about the beginnings of the MHH and their time in the lecture halls of the University of Veterinary Medicine and to enjoy the atmosphere. The two young women definitely agree on one thing: next year, they both want to show former students around the campus again - even if at least Louisa Dallmann will then officially be one of the university's alumni herself.
Golden and silver exam anniversaries
September 28, 2024
Last Saturday, almost 100 alumni who took their exams in Human medicine 25 or 50 years ago celebrated a reunion with the MHH. Ten of them had taken their exams in 1974, the others had graduated in 1999. However, they hardly differed in their curiosity about a varied day at the MHH.
The photos of the graduation anniversary can now be found online.
Suddenly a physician, suddenly a physician
July 6, 2024
The MHH-Alumni e.V. said farewell to the graduates of Human medicine last Saturday. Over 300 guests gathered for the graduation ceremony in Lecture Hall F at Hannover Medical School. Graduates Lisa Busse and Jonas Gröhl delighted their fellow students not only with their T-shirts printed to match the title of their speech "And suddenly we were physicians", but also with numerous anecdotes from their six years of study together.
Alumni association supports humor workshop
June 28, 2024
Many people know Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen as a cabaret artist and TV presenter. Most people also know that the quick-witted Frankfurt native has a doctorate in medicine. However, very few people know that he founded the foundation "Humor hilft heilen" in 2008, which aims to research the healing effects of humor and bring it to German Clinical Departments through workshops. The AStA project groups MHHumor discovered this type of training for MHH medical students years ago. After a long break, a workshop was finally held again at the MHH at the end of June, in which twelve participants were able to experience a slightly different kind of teaching for three hours. This was made possible in part by a 300-euro grant from the alumni association to cover the workshop costs. On this Saturday, there was not only a lot of laughter, but also a lot to take away for the professional and private future. The experienced trainer and clinic clown taught the students in a playful way what humor actually means and how it can be used for stress management, changing perspectives and positive Communications in a team or with patients. At the end of the workshop, not only were the students' laughter muscles exercised, but they also left with many tips and tricks that will certainly help them in their future dealings with colleagues, patients or even themselves.
MHH in conversation | Video on Parkinson's online
July 9, 2024
In June, our lecture series "MHH in conversation" focused on the early detection of Parkinson's disease. This is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer's dementia. As dead nerve cells cannot simply be restored, the aim is to diagnose the disease as early as possible. MHH researchers are currently investigating one of the early warning signs: disturbed sleep behavior in the REM phase, in which those affected flail around, scream or move more often. PD Dr. Martin Klietz (MHH Clinical Department of Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology) presented the research project and explained how the sleep disorder is diagnosed and what treatment options are available in this first stage of Parkinson's disease.

A student assistant for FAFA
June 10, 2024
At the end of May, the MHH student project group "First Aid For All" (FAFA) even made it onto the television news with an unusual campaign: 30 medical students trained around 600 pupils at IGS List in Hanover to become first aiders within 90 minutes. In order for the complex project to succeed, 75 stations with resuscitation manikins were set up in the school's gymnasium, where the 12 to 16-year-olds could practice chest compressions. The background to the whole campaign and the basic idea of the project group: if as many people as possible, including children and young people, are able to bridge the important minutes until the ambulance arrives, this can save lives in an emergency. This is why the medical students regularly visit schools to train pupils in important resuscitation measures - although not always with 600 of them at once. MHH-Alumni e.V. has been supporting this important work since this year with 5,000 euros for a student assistant to coordinate the school visits. If this organizational support proves successful, the funding will be continued for another year. After the pictures from the IGS List, we are very confident about this!

Examination ceremony for Human medicine
January 13, 2024
A large stage with a red curtain, dozens of rows of white chairs and crowds of festively dressed people - the Canteen at Hannover Medical School was almost unrecognizable last Saturday. The MHH-Alumni e.V. bid a festive farewell to 114 graduates of Human medicine in the presence of friends and family.
