Be a #ZEROHERO! Your cancer risk decreases without alcohol
The Cancer Center CCC Hannover of the MHH is participating in the National Cancer Prevention Week from September 12 to 18, 2022
Around 500,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in Germany every year - and the trend is rising. According to experts, around 40 percent of all cancers could be prevented through a healthy lifestyle. This year, the National Cancer Prevention Week is focusing on alcohol as a risk factor. The motto: "#ZEROHERO: Without alcohol, your cancer risk decreases". Together with German Cancer Aid, the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and the German Cancer Society (DKG), we want to draw attention to the great potential of prevention with educational work and information.
Alcohol increases the risk of developing several types of cancer
Avoiding alcohol or drinking only little and rarely is a good way to reduce your own cancer risk. Not only can alcohol be addictive, it also increases the risk of many diseases - including some types of cancer. These include oral cavity cancer, oesophageal cancer, liver cancer, colon and rectal cancer, laryngeal cancer, breast cancer in women and stomach cancer in those who drink more alcohol. It does not seem to matter in what form the alcohol is consumed, i.e. whether beer, wine or spirits are drunk. The decisive factor is the amount of pure alcohol in the drinks.
