The six most important indications of a primary immunodeficiency in adults

  1. Four or more infections in one year that were treated with antibiotics (e.g. bronchitis, otitis, sinusitis, pneumonia)
  2. Recurrent infections or infections requiring very prolonged antibiotic therapy.
  3. Two or more serious bacterial infections (e.g. osteomyelitis, meningitis, sepsis or inflammation of the subcutaneous tissue)
  4. Two or more cases of pneumonia confirmed by X-ray within three years
  5. Infections with unusual localization or unusual pathogens
  6. Known immunodeficiency in the family
