Inauguration "DankeMal"
Sculpture to thank donors of organs, tissue and blood products
A few years ago, the Clinical Ethics Committee, in consultation with the Presidium, launched a project to give recipients of organ, tissue or blood donations an opportunity to symbolically thank the donor.
On June 5, 2021, Organ Donation Day, the "DankeMal", an interactive sculpture by artist Andreas Rimkus, was inaugurated in the MHH patient garden.
The "DankeMal" is initially a place to come to rest, reflect and sort out the feelings associated with a blood, tissue or organ donation. However, thanks should also be expressed symbolically.
To this end, the "DankeMal" consists of a stylized funnel that can be used by those affected to express their thanks. On the back of the sculpture, sound recordings can be heard by touching a golden hand, on which recipients of organ or tissue donations express their thanks anonymously. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has provided us with a recording!
The MHH depends on the donation of blood, tissue or organs for its work and we hope that such a symbolic place of thanks will increase the willingness to donate and that the donation can be appropriately honored.
Of course, the "DankeMal" is also available to all employees, patients and visitors to the MHH who would like to say "thank you", even if this does not involve the donation of organs or tissue.
