Addiction psychiatry
Ward 54
The field of addiction medicine deals with the treatment of all forms of addiction-related illnesses. A particular focus is on the treatment of alcohol and drug addiction, opiate addiction and the treatment of so-called non-substance-related addictions such as media and gambling addiction. A highly qualified and committed team of physicians, psychologists, social workers, specialist nurses, occupational therapists and physiotherapists are available for treatment.
The therapy offered is based on evidence-based psychotherapeutic and drug treatment strategies and utilizes all modern scientific findings on addictive disorders. Numerous treatment options are offered on an outpatient basis; information on this can be found in the outpatient clinics section. Inpatient withdrawal treatment may always be necessary if the person concerned is unable to become abstinent on their own or if complications are to be expected as a result of withdrawal. These complications are not uncommon in the case of alcohol addiction and addiction to tranquilizers. A physician should always be consulted before such addictive substances are discontinued.
Withdrawal treatment on the addiction ward of the Psychiatric Clinical Department generally lasts 14 to 21 days, or longer if necessary. In addition to physical withdrawal treatment, comprehensive medical, neurological and psychiatric diagnostics and treatment are carried out. As a rule, withdrawal treatment is carried out with medication to facilitate withdrawal and make possible complications unlikely.
We begin addiction therapy on the ward in the first few days. To this end, we offer various groups with the following focal points:
-
Developing individual solutions
-
Dealing with relapse
-
Preparation for further inpatient or outpatient treatment
-
Contact with support systems (counseling centers, day clinics, therapy and transitional facilities, self-help groups, etc.)
-
Preparation for psychotherapeutic intervention
Registration on the ward takes place via the outpatient clinic for addicts.
