Special consultation hours (appointments by arrangement)
If a liver transplant is deemed necessary and feasible for patients with alcohol-induced cirrhosis on the basis of predefined criteria, the patient can be placed on a transplant waiting list. The Standing Committee on Organ Transplantation of the German Medical Association (BÄK) recommends that affected patients should only be included on the waiting list for a possible liver transplant (LTx) if they have a history of complete abstinence from alcohol for at least six months. Abstinence should be confirmed by means of various laboratory values, including the determination of ethyl glucuronide. In addition, the prognosis for maintaining abstinence after liver transplantation should be psychiatrically assessed as positive.
The aim of the consultation offered by the Department of Psychiatry, Social Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at MMH is to provide addiction counseling/support for patients with alcohol-induced liver cirrhosis before and after liver transplantation, in particular to achieve and maintain abstinence from alcohol. This is done in close cooperation with the MHH transplant outpatient clinic.

Smoke-free courses for companies
"Never to touch a cigarette again" is the goal of many smokers. Many manage to stop smoking - but fail to stay smoke-free in the long term. One way to achieve this goal is the "Smoke-free program", developed by the Institute for Therapy Research together with the Federal Centre for Health Education. The program combines the latest concepts of motivational research and behavioural therapy. On the one hand, those affected learn to better understand their smoking behavior, i.e. when and why they reach for a cigarette. On the other hand, a change in behavior for a smoke-free life is encouraged in order to reduce the high risk of relapse. In the smoke-free courses at the Clinical Department of Psychiatry, Social- and Psychological Therapy, specially qualified adult educators, physicians and psychologists work with those affected.
The course is designed as a one-day course and lasts 6 hours. In the program, there is a fixed stop-smoking period without any prior reduction in tobacco consumption. The trainer prepares this stop-smoking course competently and with experience and then supports the participants in remaining smoke-free.
The course meets the quality criteria of the "Leitfaden Prävention" (prevention guidelines) of the GKV Spitzenverband for the implementation of §20 Para. 1 SGB V. The course costs 200 euros/person. A pro-rata reimbursement of the costs for those with statutory health insurance is possible.
If you have any questions regarding participation in the course (current dates etc.), please contact us on 0511 532 9190.
