Newsletter "Medicine and Gender" Application for membership of the Competence Center
Terminology
Gender-sensitive medicine' includes both the biological and scientific aspects ('sex' ) and the socio-cultural aspects ('gender' ) as well as the personal aspects, i.e. the possible gender constellations of patients, patients, physicians, teachers and students.
Core objectives of the competence center
- to establish a gender-specific approach as a quality criterion in medicine
- to place differentiation by gender in medicine on an equal footing with the previously established differentiation criteria of 'healthy/sick' and 'young/old'
- to develop or establish a network for gender-sensitive teaching, research, patient care and further training, with the initial focus on teaching; scientific societies in particular should also be included in the network
- disseminate information on gender-sensitive medicine across disciplines, in particular via new literature
- to consolidate the terminology of gender-sensitive medicine.
Long-term goals of the center
- to involve as many disciplines as possible in the Center's activities
- to initiate and support collaborations for third-party funding applications in research
- to secure the Center's material resources
- to establish a professorship for gender-sensitive medicine at the MHH in a subject yet to be determined
