Occupational health provision (AMV)
Your work exposes you more or less intensively to health hazards and risks. If there is a possibility of adverse health effects, the law provides for preventive occupational health care. The need for this arises from the result of a risk assessment of the respective workplace.
This results in individual occupational health and safety measures on the basis of the Occupational Health Prevention Ordinance (ArbMedVV).
The AMV takes place in a protected room in compliance with medical confidentiality.
As an employee, you can obtain information and advice on the interactions between your work and your health as part of the AMV.
Occupational health screening always includes a medical consultation, which is mandatory. Further examinations such as physical examinations, lung function tests, laboratory chemical tests, hearing tests, eye tests, etc. are only offered and are therefore voluntary.
The performance of an occupational health check-up is considered working time. Your employer must release you from your normal duties for the necessary time. However, please always discuss this with your line manager in advance.
The corresponding costs are borne by the employer.
You and your employer will receive a precautionary certificate issued by your company physician after each AMV, which only contains proof of your participation in the AMV and a recommendation for the next AMV appointment. Only the employee themselves will receive individual examination results.

Overview of supply/requested/mandatory precautions
What is mandatory preventive care?
Compulsory precautions are occupational health precautions that the employer must arrange for certain particularly hazardous activities. The employer may only allow an activity to be carried out if mandatory preventive care has been carried out beforehand. This means that employees are effectively obliged to attend the preventive medical check-up. However, the physical and clinical examination is voluntary.
Example: Activity with risk of infection for employees in nursing/treatment.
What is preventive care?
Preventive care is occupational health care that the employer must offer for certain hazardous activities. Participation is voluntary.
Example: Working at a computer workstation.
What is optional preventive care?
Optional preventive care is preventive occupational health care that the employer must provide to the employee for all activities over and above the Annex to the Ordinance on Preventive Occupational Health Care.
Optional preventive care is considered, for example, if employees suspect a connection between mental stress and their work.
Overview of pre-employment/exit/suitability tests
Recruitment/exit examination
The recruitment examination is regulated by a separate agreement at MHH. This is mandatory for all future employees and is a prerequisite for the conclusion of an employment contract. This examination is carried out as an aptitude test (see below), i.e. your suitability to carry out the planned activity is checked. For this purpose, your future employer will only be informed by us whether your suitability is unrestricted or whether the planned activity is only possible for a limited period or under certain conditions. Naturally, we are not allowed to pass on any further details about the findings or the examination itself due to our duty of medical confidentiality.
The exit examination is an optional examination that you can take when your employment with us ends. This examination is only necessary for employees at risk of infection (see compulsory occupational health care). The examination serves as proof to your employer and statutory accident insurance that there is no possible occupational illness or other restriction due to the work performed at the end of the employment relationship. We can only offer this examination as long as you are still an employee of the MHH. If necessary, please contact us in good time to arrange an appointment.
Aptitude test
Aptitude tests are only carried out at Hannover Medical School on a few occasions. The scope and extent of these examinations are not regulated in the ArbMedVV, but require a separate agreement with the respective employer, e.g. as part of a service agreement.
At Hannover Medical School, there are three occasions for which such a separate agreement exists:
- Recruitment examination prior to the conclusion of the employment contract with the MHH
- Medical monitoring of exposed persons by authorized physicians in accordance with radiation protection law
- Examinations for employees with driving, control or monitoring activities
