A spin-off is understood to be the spin-off of a part of a company into an independent company, for example in the legal form of a GmbH or AG. These spin-off companies can operate more flexibly on the market, administrative channels can be shortened and investments generated from their own resources can be implemented more easily. Since the amendment of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG) in 2002, for example, universities have been able to set up a corporate budget and use non-earmarked funds to invest in company shareholdings.
In order to position itself strategically, Hannover Medical School (MHH) has invested in the following companies:
Ambulanzzentrum der MHH GmbH (MVZ I)
Date of foundation: 12.09.2007. Business purpose: Operation of a medical care center within the meaning of § 95 SGB V, participation in contract medical care as an interdisciplinary medical facility with physicians who work as employees within the framework of contract medical care. CAPNETZ FOUNDATION
Date of foundation: 14.04.2008, Foundation purpose: Promotion of science and education for the promotion of scientific work on the subject of "Community Acquired Pneumonia" (CAP) and other infections of the lower respiratory tract. MHH, a corporation under public law, is a co-founder of the foundation.
German Liver Foundation
Founded on September 14, 2006, purpose of the foundation: to promote science and research, education and information as well as public health care in the field of liver diseases. MHH, a corporation under public law, is a co-founder of the foundation.
Life Science Foundation
Date of establishment: March 21, 2001, Foundation purpose: Promotion of the general public in the fields of science and research, MHH made an endowment to the Life Science Foundation in February 2010. The Life Science Foundation is legally represented by its board members Dr. Ronald Mertz and Nicolaus Steenken.
