Even more than in many other areas, a rapid increase in the legalization of life issues can be observed in the healthcare sector. Against this background, the Administrative Unit Legal has the task of advising the Presidium, the Departments as well as the committees and employees of Hannover Medical School on issues relating to the law of the health professions, the law of statutory health insurance, liability law, service law and much more, and to accompany change processes. In addition, the entire field of university and research law and other related areas of law as well as project work. Last but not least, "general legal" issues of everyday life also play a role through the specialist departments on purchase, rental and leasing contracts etc. Legal representation for the enforcement of or defense against asserted claims is generally handled by the Legal Administrative Unit in all branches of court.

The Legal Administrative Unit sees itself as a service provider with the aim of finding practicable solutions within the given complex legal structures. The overriding aim is always to guarantee the parties involved the greatest possible legal certainty with the least possible bureaucratic requirements for their actions.
