Family LOM 360 degrees for physicians and scientists
The Family LOM 360 Grad is a special form of "performance-oriented allocation of funds" for physicians and scientists returning from maternity leave or parental leave at Clinical Departments and Institutes of the MHH.
The first performance-oriented allocation of funds (LOM) for research was introduced at the MHH in 2005. From the outset, it integrated a special funding measure for young female scientists by including the scientific achievements of women in the calculations with a factor of 1.5. In this way, the Institutes and Clinical Departments of the MHH and the working groups that generate LOM have a direct financial benefit from the work of female scientists. This creates a special incentive to promote and retain women. In addition, the scientific achievements of women become more visible. The women's factor in the research LOM has a good reputation as an innovative and successful measure for promoting women, not only within the university but also nationwide.
When the MHH designed a new measure to reconcile family and career as part of the "Family in the University" project funded by the Robert Bosch Foundation and wanted to create a financial incentive for Clinical Departments that employ mothers, it therefore made sense to take up the LOM concept and the family LOM was born. In the initial phase, the family LOM for female physicians was co-financed by the Robert Bosch Foundation. This funding came to an end in 2010 and the Presidium of the MHH decided to finance the project entirely from its own funds.
In 2010, the MHH was awarded the University Pearl for the Family LOM by the Stifterverband für die deutsche Wissenschaft. Since then, the family LOM has been established and further developed at MHH. From 2014 to 2024, not only female physicians but also female scientists were supported.
With the new "Family LOM 360 degrees" concept, physicians and scientists will also be supported from 2025 if they take care of their children as " activefathers" by taking at least six months of parental leave. In addition to other measures for active fathers, a cultural change is also to be initiated through financial support, with the aim that fathers and mothers can share professional work and care work equally if they wish.
