Transplantation biology

Allogeneic stem cell transplantation is a curative treatment for blood diseases such as acute leukemia, lymphoma and aplastic anemia. In malignant diseases, the curative effect of the therapy is based on the so-called "graft-versus-leukemia/lymphoma" (GvL) effect, which is mediated by transplanted immune cells from the stem cell donor. To date, however, this therapy is often associated with serious complications such as graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) and infections (including viral diseases).
