Sour milk products
Our intestines - one of the underestimated organs. It not only performs the task of digestion, it also protects us from external influences. Our food is one of these influences. It is therefore only logical that approx. 70-80% of our immune cells are located in the intestinal mucosa.
At the same time, invisible to us, billions of microorganisms live in our intestines, which are in constant exchange with the immune cells.
This community of bacteria, viruses and yeasts is called the microbiome and is the subject of many research series.
What we already know today is that the more diverse this microbiome is, the healthier it is. We can actively promote diversity on a daily basis by consuming so-called probiotics and prebiotics.
Typical probiotics are yogurt, buttermilk, kefir, ayran, sauerkraut, kombucha and many more. Here we are talking about lactic acid bacteria that support our intestinal flora.
With prebiotics, you feed your good intestinal bacteria and ensure that they feel right at home. To do this, you should regularly consume foods containing inulin and oligofructose. These include, among others: Artichokes, chicory, leeks, onions, black salsify, wholegrain cereals, Jerusalem artichokes and bananas.
