Fundamentals of laboratory animal science (BCM WP 19b)
Qualification objective
The lecture series imparts the required theoretical knowledge in accordance with §9 TierSchG and Annex 1 of the TierSchVersV for proof of competence to work in animal experiments. Successful participation is a prerequisite for participation in the practical basic module "Animal Experimental Techniques" or "Basic Laboratory Animal Module" (BMC WP 19c).
Competencies
After successfully completing the lecture, students have basic knowledge of laboratory animal science and can thus demonstrate the theoretical knowledge required by law in accordance with Section 9 TierSchG and Annex 1 of the TierSchVersV. If the practical basic module "Animal Experimental Techniques" or "Basic Laboratory Animal Module" is completed on the basis of this course, the participants have the basic expertise required for working on animal experimentation projects. After successfully completing the lecture series and the basic module, participants receive a certificate with which they can apply to the relevant authorities to work in animal experiments. Furthermore, the lecture series together with the basic module provides a basis for the socio-political evaluation of the use of animals in research. The courses described above qualify students for professional fields in which animal experiments or the killing of animals for the purpose of tissue removal are part of the work. The lecture series corresponds to the consensus paper of the "National Competent Authorities for the implementation 2010/63EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes".
