Fundamentals of laboratory animal science (BCM WP 19d)
Qualification objective
In the advanced courses offered, students have the opportunity to expand and deepen their knowledge in special departments of laboratory animal science according to their personal interests or requirements in a modular and competence-based manner. The knowledge and skills imparted here enable participants to plan animal experimentation projects and to independently carry out tasks that go beyond simple cooperation (basic expertise).
Competencies
Knowledge and skills from the lecture series "Basics in Laboratory Animal Science" and the basic module "Animal Experimental Techniques" are assumed and deepened. The advanced modules can be taken independently of each other. Additional credit points can be acquired by completing advanced modules (6 x 4-hour seminars or 4 x 4-hour seminars + advanced module "Operative Techniques"), which, in conjunction with the basic module "Basic Laboratory Animal Module" (BCM WP 19c), corresponds to a course in the former FELASA-B category.
In the advanced modules, participants learn important aspects in connection with the application for and implementation of animal experimentation projects. This prepares participants for the prudent planning of future animal experimentation projects in line with the 3Rs principle. Furthermore, the advanced modules, in conjunction with the lecture series and the basic module, provide a basis for the socio-political evaluation of the use of animals in research. The courses described above qualify students for professions involving animal experiments or the killing of animals for the purpose of tissue removal. The course and advanced modules comply with the consensus paper of the "National Competent Authorities for the implementation 2010/63EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes."
