Qualification objective
Successful participation demonstrates the practical skills required in accordance with Section 9 TierSchG and Annex 1 of the TierSchVersV to obtain the competence to work in animal experiments. Prerequisite for participation is successful participation in the lecture series "Fundamentals of Laboratory Animal Science" or "Basics in Laboratory Animal Science".

Competencies
The basic module "Animal Experimental Techniques" or the English-language course "Basic Laboratory Animal Module" teaches basic practical skills for working with the most common laboratory animal species (rodents). Together with the lecture series "Basics in Laboratory Animal Science", the course teaches the competent handling of laboratory animals in accordance with § 9 TierSchG and enables participants to carry out simple interventions on small laboratory animals in an expert manner. After successful participation in the lecture series and the basic module, participants receive a certificate with which they can apply to the responsible authorities for cooperation in animal experiments. Together with the basic module, the lecture series also provides a basis for the socio-political evaluation of the use of animals in research. The courses described above qualify students for professional fields in which animal experiments or the killing of animals for the purpose of tissue removal are involved. Advanced modules can be taken in greater depth (BCM WP19d). The basic module "Animal Experimental Techniques" corresponds to the consensus paper of the "National Competent Authorities for the implementation 2010/63EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes.
