Univ.-Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Ulrich Lehmann, Dipl.-Biochem.
University Professor (W2) for Molecular Pathology
I studied biochemistry with a focus on physical and biophysical chemistry, obtained my doctorate in molecular biology and habilitated in molecular pathology in 2003. After being appointed "associate professor" at the MHH in 2008, I was appointed full professor of molecular pathology at the Institute of Pathology at Hannover Medical School at the end of 2009. In this role, I head a research group and the laboratory for molecular pathology diagnostics.
Aims of my work:
- Understanding the causes and consequences of aberrant DNA methylation in human tumor diseases.
- Translation of findings on tumor biology and methodological knowledge from the research laboratory to routine molecular pathological diagnostics.
Most prestigious award:
The Jeremy Jass Prize for Research Excellence in Pathology from the Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland, December 2008
Internships, bachelor and master theses (biochemistry, biology, life science, molecular medicine, etc.) and doctoral theses (scientific and medical) are supervised on an ongoing basis.

I am involved in teaching in the master's degree programs "Biochemistry" and "Biomedicine" as well as in doctoral training at the Hannover Biomedical Research School(HBRS).
I offer the elective module "Molecular Pathology" in the Biomedicine study programs(click here for the module description).
In the Biochemistry study programmes, I participate in the lecture "Molecular Medicine"(click here for the content overview) and offer the course day "Quantification of nucleic acids in laser-microdissected tissue sections" for the module Instrumental Techniques.
I am admitted as an examiner and reviewer in the study programs "Biochemistry" and "Molecular Medicine" (both MHH) as well as in the Bachelor's program in Biology at Leibniz University Hannover and supervise Bachelor's and Master's theses.
I am involved in the study programmes in medicine by supervising medical doctoral projects.
