Clinic for Cerebrospinal Fluid Hypotension Syndrome

Directors: Dr. med. Frank Donnerstag and Taras Veith Sanches

In cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) hypotension syndrome (also known as “spontaneous intracranial hypotension,” SIH), cerebrospinal fluid leaks through a leak in the spinal column. Typical symptoms include headaches that worsen when standing and improve when lying down. Additional symptoms may include neck pain, ringing in the ears, a sensation of muffled hearing, nausea, or dizziness. Detecting the leak is often difficult and requires specialized diagnostic procedures.

During your consultation, we will review the available imaging results and plan further diagnostic tests and treatment.

Our Services:

  • Evaluation of existing MRI images of the head and spine
  • Leak detection using spinal MRI, dynamic myelography, and dynamic CT myelography
  • Image-guided treatment, for example, with a targeted epidural blood patch or embolization of a cerebrospinal fluid-venous fistula
  • Second opinion on previous diagnosis and treatment

You can contact us directly; alternatively, your treating physicians can refer you to us.
