Public Health II Social Medicine & Health Economics
(MSE P 424)
Dear students,
Welcome to the website of the Public Health II: Social Medicine & Health Economics module. On this page we will inform you about the content and structure of the course.
The aim of the course is to provide students with important social framework conditions for their medical work, with which we react to diseases and their consequences from a social perspective. In addition, students should get to know the healthcare system and its players from different perspectives and consider healthcare not only on an individual but also on a societal and population-related level. The economization of medical activity and the financing of the healthcare system are increasingly coming to the fore. As a result, the aim is to provide an insight into management action by showing how our healthcare system is organized and what effects this has on patient care.
The content of the course is divided into six subject areas.
Introduction to the healthcare system
Actors in the healthcare system
Health economics
Social medicine
Care management
Normative aspects
This course is offered in the 4th year of study, the time required is 35 hours, which can be divided into 22 hours of lectures (V) and 10 hours of seminars (S) as well as 3 hours of excursions (E) (including breaks). Through this combination, students should learn, deepen and apply subject-related skills. Regular participation in the seminar and lectures is an advantage for the examination (30 points). The written exam will take place on the regular exam date.
Further information can be found on the ILIAS learning platform.
If you have any questions, please contact Prof. Dr. Dr. Christian Krauth or Ms. Lara Fricke, Tel.: 0511 532-4453.
