Abdominal Radiology team
The Institute's abdominal team is responsible for performing all radiological diagnostics on patients from the Abdominal and Transplant Surgery, Gastroenterology and Nephrology Clinical Departments as well as patients from the Emergency Department and other clinics. In addition to organizational responsibility for the computed tomography department with a total of three computed tomography scanners, the abdominal team's tasks cover the entire diagnostic spectrum of radiology, from simple X-rays to fluoroscopy, CT and MRI examinations. In addition to purely diagnostic activities, its tasks also include carrying out interventions such as image-guided tissue removal, the insertion of drains and the local treatment of tumors. Other tasks include presenting the images produced as part of daily case demonstrations by various specialist departments as well as weekly interdisciplinary tumor conferences, where the aim is to determine the best possible treatment for our joint patients in line with the latest scientific findings.
The decisive advantage of assigning individual specialist departments to radiology teams such as the abdominal team is that, on the one hand, patient care is guaranteed by medical staff with the highest level of expertise in the relevant field and, on the other hand, the team is responsible for all radiological examinations of the relevant patients and therefore has a good overview of the overall situation of the patients.
Several conventional X-ray workstations and ultrasound machines, a fluoroscopy system, three computer tomographs and five magnetic resonance tomographs are available for carrying out the examinations. Which diagnostic procedure is used depends on the problem and various factors affecting the patient and is determined together with the referring physicians in the interests of optimum patient care.
