Student teaching
Clinical pharmacology is the study of the use of drugs in humans and forms the interface between theory and practice in therapy and research. Drug therapy is one of the most important therapeutic measures in medical practice and is therefore of great relevance to all clinical disciplines.
Providing the best possible qualification is one of the most important contributions to securing medical care for all of us in the future.

Clinical traineeship
During your clinical traineeship, you will be supervised by the Institute's physicians and team. The Drug Therapy Information System (ATIS) area covers drug therapy advice in routine clinical practice. It deals with complex medical issues, including the risk-benefit assessment of side effects and interactions. The clinical-pharmacological consultation service of the Institute of Clinical Pharmacology supports clinicians and physicians in private practice with competent pharmacotherapy advice. They gain an overview of the common clinical pictures in the respective Clinical Departments. Diagnostic procedures are easier to understand and you will learn how to combine theoretical principles with clinical knowledge.

Practical year
All practising physicians, regardless of their specialty, need a sound knowledge of the effects, interactions and side effects of drugs as well as their absorption, distribution and excretion in the human organism.
At the end of the PJ tertial in clinical pharmacology
- you will be able to take a medical history covering all functional areas of the body
- you will be able to take a more detailed medication history
- be able to write a written clinical pharmacology consultation
- have knowledge of the structure and function of measures for recognizing, avoiding and correcting hazardous situations caused by drug therapy (drug therapy safety, AMTS)
The licensing regulations require you to keep a PJ logbook. Our Clinical Pharmacology logbook provides you with a structured process.

On the pharmacotherapeutic case conference
Learning objectives:
To apply the acquired clinical knowledge under practical conditions in order to assess an existing or planned drug therapy.
Course content:
Specific patient cases with complex clinical-pharmacological issues are presented. The focus is on the individualization of therapy, particularly in cases of impaired liver and kidney function, in old age and during pregnancy and breastfeeding, the risk-benefit assessment of side effects and interactions and the discussion of pharmacotherapeutic alternatives, taking into account efficacy, safety and costs.
