Single center: Autoimmune encephalomyelitis
The rare autoimmune encephalomyelitides include neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) and antibody-mediated encephalitides. These diseases are serious, usually acutely manifesting diseases of the central nervous system. Care is provided at the center in both inpatient and outpatient settings. It is not uncommon for the initial diagnosis and treatment of NMOSD and antibody-mediated encephalitis to require an inpatient stay at the Clinical Department of Neurology due to the severity of the disease. Outpatient follow-up treatment by a team of experts takes place at the center in the outpatient clinic of the Clinical Department of Neurology (special consultation for neuroimmunological diseases). There are currently no approved therapies for any of the diseases; early immunotherapy is necessary due to the severe and rapidly disabling course of the disease and therefore requires comprehensive consultation. Patients can be referred to the center (inpatient and outpatient) by surrounding Clinical Departments and specialist colleagues for a second opinion.
Competencies of the individual center:
- Patient care (diagnostics and therapy; outpatient and inpatient)
