The Pediatric Center for Cystic Fibrosis has been in existence since 1976 and the Cystic Fibrosis Outpatient Clinic for Adults in the Clinical Department of Pneumology since 1993. Around 200 children and adolescents and 285 adult patients are treated here every year.
Since spring 2013, adolescents and adults with cystic fibrosis have been treated in a joint outpatient clinic at Hannover Medical School in order to facilitate the transition of adolescents to adult medicine and improve cooperation between the departments. Depending on the age of the patient, medical care is provided by pediatricians or physicians from the Clinical Department of Pneumology. Younger children continue to be cared for on the premises of the Pediatric Clinic.
Both the cystic fibrosis outpatient clinic for children and adolescents and the outpatient clinic for adults are certified by the Cystic Fibrosis Association (Mukoviszidose e.V.). The CF Center was awarded the Christiane Herzog Prize in 2005 for special achievements in patient care.
