Basic centers - fundamental for treatment
Basic centers are used across all diagnoses and make an important contribution to the diagnosis, treatment and care of people with rare diseases. Depending on the disease or indicative symptoms, different centers can be consulted at different times.
In order to better illustrate these structures, the Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS) is used here as an example to show which centers may be involved in this case. For other diseases, completely different competencies may be required.
Example of Li-Fraumeni syndrome
LFS is a genetic disease that is associated with a significantly increased risk of various types of cancer. The underlying genetic defect can lead to the multiple occurrence of malignant tumors as early as childhood. It is therefore necessary to recognize the signs of cancer at an early stage in order to be able to treat it as effectively as possible. Consequently, structured early detection measures should be carried out for people with LFS.
