Solidarity in Action
The MHH condemns the Russian attack on Ukraine and pledges solidarity with all Ukrainians. We have compiled the details of this here.►The offer in Ukrainian/Пропозиція українською мовою
In particular, we want to support those who have fled in dire need, as well as our employees from the war-torn region, and open up positive prospects for them. We have launched a relief goods campaign, offer counseling, and directly place people in jobs at MHH.

FAQ for Refugees and MHH Staff (under construction)
- Flight and displacement, as well as threats to one’s own life and that of loved ones, can trigger psychological symptoms such as anxiety disorders, deep despair, motor restlessness, unwanted flashbacks, disorientation/confusion, and severe sleep disturbances. Sometimes these symptoms do not appear until days or weeks later, when the worst seems to have been overcome. And even the helpers who are indirectly affected can be pushed to the limits of their psychological coping abilities through their exposure to suffering and despair.
Our Clinical Departments for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy and for Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy offer refugees, family members, and helpers quick and unbureaucratic assistance through their outpatient clinics. Please register at the clinics’ outpatient clinic hours if needed. The consultation can be conducted in English or German. You may also bring an adult (!) to assist with translation. Otherwise, we would try to arrange for an interpreter, though this may delay your appointment. A medical certificate (typically issued by the social welfare office for registered refugees) would be helpful but is not strictly required.

- In addition, the Catholic and Protestant hospital chaplaincies offer a place for quiet prayer. A peace candle has been lit in the prayer room on Ladenstraße (Building K5), and prayer texts are available there. This is an offer for anyone seeking a place to pause and reflect. If you are also looking for someone to talk to, the chaplains are happy to assist you. You can contact the Catholic Hospital Chaplaincy at 0511 532-5405 and the Protestant Hospital Chaplaincy at 0511 532-5474.

To work as a physician in Germany, there are certain requirements and rules. A prerequisite for beginning the process is learning the language. If you wish to work in a clinical setting in Germany (or the EU), you must meet the required language proficiency level of B2/C1. Another factor is the recognition of your completed medical training in Ukraine.
You can find detailed information on the following websites:
- Lower Saxony Medical Association: https://www.aekn.de/aerzte/niedersaechsischer-zweckverband-zur-approbationserteilung-nizza
- Marburger Bund: https://www.marburger-bund.de/bundesverband/service/aerztinnen-und-aerzte-mit-auslaendischer-qualifikation/foreign-trained-1-0
- Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training: https://www.anerkennung-in-deutschland.de/html/de/2688.php
Legally speaking, it is possible for you to submit an application for a guest position in any department of the hospital. You could benefit from this, but you would not receive a salary. And it does not count toward your accreditation or specialization. You would get to know the system and the language.
For the MHH, it goes without saying that we must support the people of Ukraine in this terrible situation. That is why a contact point has been set up to which inquiries regarding offers of help or requests for support can be directed: INKM@mh-hannover.de
If you would like to provide financial support, please use the donation account of the MHH plus Foundation, Sparkasse Hannover, IBAN DE 95 2505 0180 0900 4444 44, BIC SPKHDE2HXXX, reference: Ukraine Hilfe.
