Second-hand bazaar 2025

Anyone could take part for five euros and a cake

On Saturday, September 6, 2025, parents were able to buy and sell well-preserved children's clothing, toys and much more at a second-hand bazaar at the daycare center of Hannover Medical School (MHH). From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., parents and employees of the Campuskinder daycare center invited parents to this offer on the outdoor grounds of the daycare center (Building Z2), Carl-Neuberg-Str. 1, 30625 Hanover.

Parents whose children do not attend the MHH daycare center were also able to take part. The stand fee was one home-baked cake and five euros. The proceeds from the sale of coffee and cake and the fee were donated to the Campuskinder daycare center.

Applications for a stand for the 2026 bazaar are expected to be possible from August 2026 at Campuskinder.Basar@mh-hannover.de

Big cheers: we are one of the best daycare centers in Germany

Our team was awarded second place in the German Daycare Center Prize 2023 in Berlin, which is endowed with 10,000 euros.

Great excitement and pure joy: the MHH daycare center Campuskinder was awarded an outstanding second place in the German Daycare Center Award 2023 competition in Berlin today, which is endowed with 10,000 euros. Ten daycare centers made it to the finals at the award ceremony in Berlin. A total of 750 Facilities or Institutions applied nationwide, and Campuskinder was the only daycare center from Lower Saxony still in the running. "We would like to congratulate our daycare center and are extremely proud of our dedicated teachers and the entire daycare team. This award is fitting for our university, which has been awarded the 'audit familiengerechte hochschule' certificate without interruption since 2005," says MHH President Prof. Dr. Michael Manns.

The Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Lisa Paus, and the Managing Director of the German Children and Youth Foundation, Anne Rolvering, jointly selected the award winners. "Daycare centres are educational institutions," emphasized Rolvering. The awards are endowed with a total of 130,000 euros and are presented in the two categories "Daycare Center of the Year" and "Local Alliance for Early Education of the Year". 25,000 euros each will go to the first-place winners and 10,000 euros each to the four runners-up in both categories.

"We are overwhelmed and very pleased about the appreciation for the work of our specialists! The award shows us that we are on the right track and spurs us on," emphasizes Martin Fulst, Head of the MHH Campuskinder daycare centre. "Our work with the children is characterized by change and we look forward to experiencing every change together with the children and accompanying them through it."

In its decision, the jury praised the MHH daycare center for being an outstanding example of the compatibility of family and career with its flexible and needs-based services. It emphasized the fine feeling, the individual care in the team and the bilingual education.

Federal Minister for Family Affairs praises excellent work in early education

"Every year, the German Daycare Award celebrates people who do a wonderful and so important job with a lot of heart and soul, passion and creativity. The award therefore puts the spotlight on excellent work in early education, care and childcare and makes important driving forces for good quality visible," says Federal Minister for Family Affairs Lisa Paus. For the first time in the history of the Kita Award, the MHH campus children were among the finalists. The German Daycare Prize was awarded for the sixth time by the German Children and Youth Foundation. The patron of the foundation, Elke Büdenbender, emphasizes that daycare centers are places where families are welcomed in their diversity.

The MHH daycare center Campuskinder offers MHH employees and some external parents all-day, year-round care for their children aged eight weeks to 14 years. The educational concept of the daycare center includes bilingual education with an English-speaking specialist, early musical education with a music teacher, a balanced promotion of physical activity and early childhood STEM education (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology) from the crèche onwards. The aim is always to strengthen the resilience of the girls and boys at the daycare center and to enable them to act sustainably with a view to the future. "Mindful interaction and active participation contribute to the children's sense of well-being. And this is the only way learning and therefore education is possible," adds Martin Fulst.

Chicken mobile at the daycare center

The exciting "Hühnermobil" project was running at the daycare center. It was implemented by the specialists from the Rotermund-Hemme organic farm. Ten healthy chickens lived in a mobile chicken coop in the outdoor area of the daycare center. The children were able to observe and care for the animals from 10.10. - 7.11.2022 under the supervision and guidance of the specialists. Children can learn a lot with and from chickens. With this project, we enabled the girls and boys to relate to animals with the aim of absorbing a wide range of learning content on the environment, nature and sustainable development, taking responsibility and strengthening children's social behavior. "Where do the eggs come from? What does a chicken's plumage or a freshly laid egg feel like? How many eggs can a chicken lay in a year? What needs does a chicken have? The project offered the opportunity to gain knowledge about and with the animal through direct practical relevance. As part of the practical work, such as feeding the animals, collecting the eggs, cleaning the coop and observing the chickens, the children can gain direct experience and enjoy being involved. The project was accompanied by the implementation of appropriate learning content by the institution. Here is a small selection of goals that resulted from the animal-assisted pedagogy: - Igniting curiosity and interaction processes - Further development of perception with all senses - Strengthening the sense of community through the necessary cooperation. The specialists at the organic farm were always available to answer questions.

The project was a complete success and the chickens were sorely missed by everyone.
