"55 years of Eurotransplant and organ exchange"
Recording of the 4th Advent Lecture of the MHH Transplant Centre
The 4th Advent Lecture of the Transplant Centre with guest speaker Dr. Serge Vogelaar, Director Allocation Eurotransplant (ET), was dedicated to the topic "55 years of ET - experiences in international organ exchange". The collaboration with MHH began back in 1968, shortly after ET was founded by the Dutch immunologist Ion van Rood. The first kidney transplanted at the MHH in the same year was arranged by ET.
Today, 8 countries with 77 transplant centers are part of the ET network. In 2022, 6,454 organs were transplanted, around 22 percent across national borders.13,276 patients were on the ET waiting lists for a donor organ at the end of 2022. Dr. Vogelaar gave a clear overview of the complex distribution rules and the demanding work of ET with the aim of providing the most suitable organs as quickly as possible.
